What is so called "Fair Trade"

This first paragraph is completely invalid in trying to belittle the whole objective of fair trade. The claim that no one has ever been able to tell this person what fair trade really is is a bit ridiculous. Is this how they get all of their information, through asking others? If this person would have at least googled it, they would have been somewhat informed on what they are talking about. They have no evidence to back any one of their claims.
The central problem we are trying to resolve here is that the middleman pays the farmers way too little. The price they are paid is not enough to even get by. This writer thinks that if this was the case, it would have been resolved a long time ago. Obviously not, people love to make money and the more the merrier. It was not until a group of people decided to stand up for the poor people in third world countries that did not have to power to stand up for them selves. Come on lets think about this one, a poor person against a powerful corporation. Who do you think is going to win? The poor do not stand a chance against these powerful companies and thats why this fair trade organization was created.
Another claim is that because of fair trade, we are "distorting" the natural market and thats a bad thing. That is something that needed to be done because it was the right thing to do. If that means paying more for something than so be it. Most people don't see it that way because they hate having to spend a little extra money, even if they know that is the right thing to do.
