Believe it or not, many people don't know what fair trade really is. Many people just think of it as a little sticker on certain products at the super market, but it is so much more than that. Basically it is a system used to ensure that everyone gets a fair deal. By everyone I mean the consumers and producers. Keep in mind that fair trade is global and is all about equality. Fair Trade products have to go through a very detailed test to ensure that the product is worthy of the title. The pricing of the product is determined by the Fair Trade Labeling Organization. The price that is chosen is chosen for various reasons. It should cover the cost of production and the basic necessities that the people who produce it need. This ensure a better lifestyle for the people producing it. When paying for a fair trade product, not only do you help the workers who produced it, but you help out whole communities because the money gets invested back into the communities in which the product comes from. This has helped build schools, clinics, and even training the men and women of these towns and villages to be able to become more successful. Not only is fair trade good for the people of the world, but it is also good for the world, the environment. Fair trade farmers grow things naturally, no harsh chemicals or toxins are used. Lastly, fair trade helps those who are at the bottom of the economy. It helps these small businesses blossom and it gives them a chance to be successful.
